Melissa grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts and has worked for Harvard’s chemistry department since 1999. She started as a temporary office assistant in the Whitesides lab and the CCB finance department, working 12 hours a week.  Over the years, she worked her way up and in 2010 became the faculty assistant to George M. Whitesides. It was then she began interacting with other faculty members. In fall of 2021, during the decline of the pandemic, is when she also took on the role of faculty assistant to Dan Kahne and Suzanne Walker.  

Outside of work, Melissa is a wife and a mom of 2 (now young adults) and a pet mom to her dog, Emma (Boxer) and cat, Stitches (a backyard stray). She enjoys hiking trails with her husband and dog, loves junk food and is always looking forward to weekends away with family and friends.
