Aurelio grew up in Torino, Italy. After graduating from high school, he moved to Haverford College, Pennsylvania, where he majored in Chemistry with a Biochemistry concentration. His undergraduate research focused on the glycopeptide antibiotic complestatin and reconstitution of one of its key biosynthetic steps. Upon graduation, he moved to the Chemistry Department of Harvard University, where he is currently investigating the mechanistic details of the lipid II flippase MurJ
In his free time, he enjoys going on long runs around the Back Bay/Boston University neighborhoods, and golfing. He also enjoys skiing and ice skating in the winter months. He enjoys listening to a lot of music, both inside and outside of the lab. He also dabbles in the kitchen, albeit with little success and many failures to his name.
